Porquepish family on the beach

Porque Pish began with conversations with my four-year old son, Neem. Inspired by his words, questions, and the wisdom in children that we often forget to listen to, it is an ode to their way of seeing the world. We create small-batch, unisex summer clothing using cotton Malmal, Jamdani, and beautiful leftover fabrics, with each message embroidered by hand.

Porque Pish?

“Pish” was one of Neem’s first words. He wanted to say fish, but somehow, in his little world of languages, it became pish. My husband is Spanish, I am Indian, and we mostly speak English at home.

Somewhere between our languages came por qué — why? — and porque — because. A simple exchange of questions and answers that became the beginning of many conversations.

So when I thought about creating this project, I couldn’t think of a better name than Porque Pish.
Por qué Pish? Why Pish? Or maybe…
Porque Pish. Because Pish.

The clothes are only the beginning. At its heart, Porqué Pish is about the things we learn from children, the words we carry with us, and the conversations that continue to grow.
