Breathing is something we do every moment without thinking about it. But sometimes, simply stopping and taking a slow, deep breath in and out can help us feel more present.
When Neem was in my belly, we spent nine months breathing together. After he was born, getting him to sleep could sometimes be difficult, so “Breathe in, breathe out” naturally became part of our nights together. At first, he made little sounds and breathed along with us, then started saying the words himself. Soon, the three of us were doing it together, and one day, Neem was the one reminding us to take a deep breath in, and a deep breath out.
