I’m Not Small, I’m Growing

In our effort to protect our children, we forget how much they are growing and what they are already capable of. I remember a day in the countryside when Neem wanted to walk towards the river on his own. I told him he couldn’t because he was still small. He looked at me and said, “Mama, I’m not small. I’m growing.”

Those little words left me with a thought. Sometimes, children express things so simply that we see them differently. We can become so focused on keeping them safe that we forget to give them space to explore, try and discover things for themselves.

“I am not small, I am growing” became a reminder to let go when we can, trust our children a little more, and give them the space to grow into who they are becoming.
