Roots
The idea of choosing fabric as the medium for the messages and making clothes is deeply connected to my own childhood. I grew up wearing clothes that were stitched, passed down, borrowed from my sisters and cousins, or made by my Nani.
She would buy leftover pieces of fabric from tailors and make clothes for me on her manual sewing machine. I don’t remember the brands or the characters printed on my clothes. I remember my Nani making them for me.
I still have a knitted sweater my Nani (maternal grandmother) made for my mother, which eventually came to me. I wore it, my siblings wore it, and Neem wore it too, until he outgrew it. I still keep it. Maybe one day another child will wear it.
